I love eBay..I really do. However, this last month of eBaying has been very interesting.
First, I had to list my previous laptop (the hp I had before I switched to my MacBook Pro) 3 different times before I finally had a buyer. Listing that many times was a hassle in addition to all the fees. But I finally got a buyer, right? Wrong. Of course my “buyer” has not paid me. It has been almost 3 weeks. After the first initial week, I finally got a response asking to be able to pay with cashiers check. I said, hey sure why not, I don’t really care - I’m not in a huge hurry. (Plus then I can avoid nasty Paypal fees.) Naturally the check never came. Dispute Filed: Non-Paying Bidder. I think I’m going to wait until August when the school rush happens before I list it again.
Meanwhile during the laptop mess…the plot thickens….
Second, I wanted to buy a watch - a nice watch - something with a name attached - something to replace my digital $15 Wal-Mart junk that’s a Continue Reading »
Net neutrality is an issue that affects everyone that uses the internet. Right now every website out there has an equal opportunity to spread its content to users like us at an equal speed. Thats how it should be. That is what net neutrality is. However, the big 4 internet providers (Comcast, AT&T, Time Warner, and Verizon) want that all to change. They want to control what goes through the pipes to our computers by having large companies pay them off to have a faster connection. That means that websites that are not big corporations will load extremely slow or possibly even be restricted.
The big hype now is that the FTC is currently doing away with those current regulations. Net neutrality used to be in Continue Reading »
I’ve been doing a paper route since I was a kid. Started it in the 4th grade and am still doing it to this day (however I’ll hand it over to my dad when I leave for college this fall). The nightgown episode has happened countless times. But I am reminded of the humor since it happened again this morning.
This always gets hearty chuckle by me each time it happens. Do people think I’m blind? Or do they think that if they shut the door quickly that it is as if I never saw them?
So I’m walking house to house tossing papers when one of my customers opens her door, still in her nightgown, to see if the paper is on her porch. She looks down first then looks around. I start to step into her yard where she clearly sees me coming. Within a second the door is closed rapidly. I think she just wanted to believe I didn’t see her in her nightgown. There are some (usually older folks) who don’t care and will stand at the door and wait for me to come to hand the paper to them. But I always get a laugh when someone comes out, sees me, then runs back inside. Once a guy in tighty whiteys opened his door to check for a paper when I was coming. He darted back in faster than anyone.
Moral of the story: Don’t be an idiot - when you walk outside your door, people WILL see you.
