No, you didn’t see me in my nightgown!

I’ve been doing a paper route since I was a kid. Started it in the 4th grade and am still doing it to this day (however I’ll hand it over to my dad when I leave for college this fall). The nightgown episode has happened countless times. But I am reminded of the humor since it happened again this morning.
This always gets hearty chuckle by me each time it happens. Do people think I’m blind? Or do they think that if they shut the door quickly that it is as if I never saw them?
So I’m walking house to house tossing papers when one of my customers opens her door, still in her nightgown, to see if the paper is on her porch. She looks down first then looks around. I start to step into her yard where she clearly sees me coming. Within a second the door is closed rapidly. I think she just wanted to believe I didn’t see her in her nightgown. There are some (usually older folks) who don’t care and will stand at the door and wait for me to come to hand the paper to them. But I always get a laugh when someone comes out, sees me, then runs back inside. Once a guy in tighty whiteys opened his door to check for a paper when I was coming. He darted back in faster than anyone.
Moral of the story: Don’t be an idiot - when you walk outside your door, people WILL see you.
